How to cleanse your crystals

Cleansing crystals can be beneficial as if used regularly they can build up of energies that need clearing, just like you do for yourself. Be it a bath, grounding in nature or your choice of clearing those unwanted, or negative vibes (we’ve ALL been around an energy vampire or 2!), everything needs a cleanse to let go of the old, stale or stagnant energy. This way we can make way for the new energy, and use our crystals for perhaps new intentions, new goals, new self upgrades, or whatever newness you’re bringing into your life.

Even if you don’t use crystals for intentions, their energies will get stagnant. Just like sometimes you need, or want, to move your furniture around to create a fresh, new vibe, crystals are no different. Crystals are energetic “beings” with their own healing properties, and own “consciousness” if you will.

Below is a great starting point if you’re unfamiliar with, or don’t cleanse your crystals on the regular, so need a refresher on how crystals like to be cleansed.

Smoke:
Waft sage over your crystals for a minute or so for each one. Envision all energies being removed for a fresh clean slate, ready for charging and imparting new intentions for the next month (or however long in-between cleanses ;) ) While I’m saging, I love to put on some crystal cleansing music and make it a moment. This is my fave way to cleanse!

Good for: All crystals

Water:
Visualise the water removing all negative energies and stored imparted emotions as the water washes over each crystal. Pure water is best, but all water will do the trick. Wash for about 30 seconds or so for each crystal. Water cleansing should be the one form on cleaning you probably should pay close attention to as many crystals don’t do well with a water cleanse. If you cleanse one of the below crystals (and some others) with water, be aware, they may, crack, crumble, or dissolve. Especially if you soak them in water.

Good for: Any crystal with a 6 or higher on the MOHs scale, that is not listed below.
Not good for: All crystals ending in -ite eg; Shungite, Fluorite, Pyrite, Calcite, Hematite, Celestite, Angelite, Labradorite, etc. Also Moonstone, and Black Moonstone and they are part of the Labradorite family.
Also, tourmalines eg, Black Tourmaline, Pink Tourmaline, Watermelon Tourmaline; Aquamarine, Chrysocolla, Desert Rose (which is a form of Selenite) and Lapis Lazuli.
If a crystal is known to have a toxic property in/ about them eg. Cinnabar, which is mercury based, do not wash these either. It can potentially leach the toxic materials and nobody’s got time for that hazardous nonsense, but also, your beautiful crystals!

Please note, this list is not extensive, so you should do your own research, as always.

Grounding:
Place your crystals into the earth and cover with the surrounding earth material. Leave overnight, recover them, give them a quick dust off and set those new intentions!

Good for: All crystals

Selenite:
When life gets busy, or you forget on the Full Moon, use trusty Selenite, which doesn’t need cleansing itself, but will happily cleanse your other crystals for you. Just place them on your Selenite beauty (like a designated cleansing plate), and leave for a day or so.

Good for: All crystals
